You know… your real goal? Not the one that you say or write down when you come in on your first day, but your actual real real goal…

Hmmm not sure what I mean?

You write ” To lose weight”— that is too vague

you write “To lose 20 lbs”— that is a desire

you write “To lose 20 lbs in 10 weeks” — better… but is it real?

Only if you can honestly write “To lose 20 lbs in 10 weeks, commit to my workout and show up on time ready to go 5 days a week, to drop the junk from my diet and learn better eating habits” BAM! THAT is a goal!

I have had so many clients write down the vaguest stuff.. In fact 1 client used to throw around a lot of weight in his younger days of weight lifting, so he used that as his goal to get in shape…We of course worked on this goal for the last 5 months.. Then he said to me ” I am stronger and have more definition and strength but my golf game has gone to sh$%” Ohhhh so you want to “get in shape” but improve your golf game… totally different goal then what he thought he wanted.

Think hard about what you want and the time you are willing to put into it.  Write it down in as much detail as possible!

One thing you will hear over and over is to make your Goals “SMART” Goals. Goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.  The term may be cliche but it is still a good guide to follow when making your goals.
