If you have known me for any length of time, you will hear me preach about the importance of not only purchasing and eating organic food, but going a step further by purchasing only locally grown produce through your local farmers market or farms.

Here in the OC there are several certified farmers markets. There are also some small farms, that are not only organic and fresh, but family owned.

This means that every time you buy from them you are directly effecting your local economy, and supporting a family run business.

My favorite local  farm is Smith’s Farm. I have spoken with MacKay Smiths daughter and hopefully will be able to bring you a more behind the scene look at the farm. It is located on the corner of Bryan and Jeffery in Irvine. It is so easy to get into and out of, it is open everyday from 8 am to dusk. It is 100% organic. We try and go every Monday to at least purchase our fresh fruit and a few other things. I find the prices less expensive then Whole Foods, and Sprouts and about the same as the grocery store.

Tonight the kids  wanted to pick stuff out for dinner. As you know, I do not cook so I thought this was an unusual request. But I figured.. what the hell let’s see what I can whip up (I can always order pizza if it doesn’t work out)

This is what I have to work with:

First I Boiled the potatoes

Then Chopped up zucchini and squash and just about 2 slices of red onion

Cooked the brussel sprouts

once the potatoes where softened I slice them and added them in the skillet with the other veggies and some EVOO.

I mean they will pretty much eat anything, but they scarfed this and pasta sauce bread. I’m impressed!

The end result was actually really good! I think the potatoes helped, I am not sure it would have felt like a solid dish with just the veggies. I put the cooked brussel sprouts just on top of the cooked veggies.

So there you have it a fresh veggie filled meal, with local organic ingredients. Bon Appetite!
